The main objective of the fellowship program is to have the fellow, upon the completion of the program, demonstrate the ability to:

Specific Goals

Specific goals of the fellowship program include training and skills development  in the following areas:  

  1. Develop advanced clinical skills in emergency medicine.

  2. Public health issues in the field of  health policy and administration especially those pertaining to international emergency medicine development.

  3. Travel logistics, security training, and field mission coordination.

  4. Infectious epidemics, endemics, and travel vaccination recommendations.

  5. Fund raising for international health programs, and writing proposals for grants.

  6. Active participation in international EM conferences, interest groups in IEM, and IEM societies/associations.

  7. Writing papers/abstracts and presenting lectures on IEM.

  8. Work with different health organizations, including health ministries, public health organizations, and NGO’s, etc..

  9. Basic training in immunization, Maternal Child Health, and nutritional programs.

  10. Disaster preparedness and response in collaboration with the Bio-terrorism preparedness team in Chicago led by Rush and Cook County hospitals, and IMC’s disaster response team.

  11.  EMS systems including organization, development, administration, as well as different pre-hospital models that exist in the world.

  12.  Language skills will be encouraged through learning  a new language that the fellow is interested in that might be of help in the future.
